Using Native Plants in our Gardens
February 4, 2017 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
FreeFood and Thought welcomes SWFL Native Plant enthusiast Kara Tyler who will talk about how to attract butterflies & birds, grow our own food, and enjoy a trouble free garden with beautiful and edible native plants that bring simplicity and balance to our ecology. Join us as we learn about those plants, see examples, and discover how we can use them in our landscapes, gardens, and daily lives…..and why we should! Who knows, maybe you will win a free native plant during our free raffle! Come, relax and learn with us; guests are invited to enjoy a healthy juice, smoothie, and/or snack from our cafe before, during, or after the class.
About the Instructor
Kara Tyler-Julian is an entomologist with a master’s degree in Entomology from the University of Florida where she concentrated on Integrated Pest Management. She currently works for the Lee County Mosquito Control District as a Mosquito Biologist. Previously Kara worked in the agriculture industry for five years where she gained a love for plants and growing her own food. She lives in Lehigh Acres on 3/4 acre of land growing fruit trees intermixed with native plants practicing some of the biological control and cultural control methods she learned while working on her thesis and while working in the agriculture industry. Ms. Tyler-Julian is also a member of the Florida Native Plant Society: Coccoloba chapter and is always ready to learn and experiment more with native plant and insect interactions.
